An NEH Landmarks of American History and Culture Workshop hosted by the Spencer Museum of Art

Housing

Summer Scholars who require accommodation will have the option to reserve a reduced-rate room at the SpringHill Suites by Marriott, a full-service hotel in the heart of downtown. The SpringHill Suites are located approximately 1.6 miles away from the Spencer Museum of Art and University of Kansas campus and are within blocks of Lawrence’s best restaurants, bars, and shopping. Participating teachers are strongly encouraged to reside with the group at the SpringHill Suites. The location, large lobby, spacious and comfortable guest suites, and accommodating staff are well-suited for the workshop and will help create a cohesive community. The workshops will also provide free transportation to and from the hotel during the workshops; those who opt to stay elsewhere will need to make their own arrangements. (See the Transportation for additional details).

Teachers can book a room for $110 + tax per night in June or $107+ tax per night in July. Project faculty can also assist pairing teachers interested in sharing a room to lessen the cost. Participating teachers will be expected to cover the cost of their hotel room upon checkout and can use money from the stipend to reimburse the cost. Information about how to reserve under the Spencer Museum of Art’s reduced-rate block of rooms will be made available upon notification of acceptance.

The hotel is located on the Kansas River and offers free parking for hotel guests. (Please refer to the Transportation section for additional information about parking during the workshops).

Please note that the SpringHill Suites is a smoke-free hotel.
